Worship

Vision

To see God's presence, power, and purpose manifested in the life of every believer.

Biblical Philosophy

Worship is ascribing honor, praise, reverence, and worth to God (Psalms 5:7;29:2;66:4). Authentic worship requires a sacrifice. The first time we see the term worship used is in Genesis chapter 22. In this passage God commands Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac. Abraham responds in obedience by saying to his servants "Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you" Genesis 22:5. Abraham understood that his worship of God would cost him that which he held most dear. This passage gives us a clear picture of what Christ did for us on the cross (John 3:16). God gave his only begotten son so that we could have eternal life through Jesus Christ. We must adopt this attitude as well. Worship is our number one priority and requires that we sacrifice our entire lives (Romans 12:1-2).

As we worship God through song, we believe that we enter the presence of God (Matthew 18:20, Ephesians 2:6, Hebrews 4:16). In Isaiah chapter 6, we find the prophet Isaiah entering into the presence of God. From this chapter, we can observe three things that God supplies through worship and three ways in which we must respond. In authentic worship, God supplies:

  • His Presence - God will be with us (Isaiah 6:1-4)
    • We respond with reverence: God must be high and lifted up in our own lives with nothing before Him.
  • His Power - God will convict hearts and change lives (Isaiah 6:5-7)
    • We respond with humility: Recognizing our own sinfulness and desperate need for Christ.
  • His Purpose - God will call us to something greater (Isaiah 6:8)
    • We respond with obedience: We commit to fulfill all that God is calling us to.

As a church body, we believe prayer to be the source of power and effectiveness in ministry. We begin each practice with a time of praise and prayer to God. We expect all members to be fully committed to prayer both corporately and individually.
