Current Prayer Requests and Praises

From Tim Taylor, Aug 29: Randy's new truck was stolen this afternoon while he and Leila were inside the fireworks warehouse.  He paid cash for the truck ($15,000) and only has liability insurance.    Also his new laptop, Bible, Directions and SOT material were inside.  Please pray for the recovery of the truck and his belongings and for Randy and Bri's peace of mind.  Also that God can make a way if these things are not recovered.  Thanks, Tim

From Lindsay Templeton, Aug 29: Please be in prayer for my grandma (Gladys) who has bone cancer that she has stopped taking treatments for. She just wants to be left alone to die, but she is not saved. We have presented the gospel to her several times but she sees no need for a Savior. Please pray that the Lord would work on her to make a decision soon.

From Chris, August 25: We have numerous open doors from the Kansas City, Missouri school district, requesting volunteers to help with Good News Clubs.  This is an after school program that meets for about an hour once a week in area schools.  If you are interested and available to share the gospel through this outreach opportunity please contact Chris Best at   This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. From Tk Fu, August 24: William Yuo has gone to my parent's church (Northland Chinese Christian Church) for 10 years but neither he nor his family have received Christ.  His 18 year old daughter Elizabeth Yuo has had untreatable cancer for 2 years and was just sent home from the hospital to die. She's at death's door without being sealed with that holy Spirit of promise. Please pray that she accept Christ before she dies. Please also pray for the salvation of her parents. I am so burdened over this young girl's soul - please labor with me in prayer. Thanks!

From Cindy Prince: We have moved to the Raytown area, off 75th and Blue Ridge Cutoff.  Is anyone available to pick us up for church on Sunday? (I’ll have Destiny with car seat.)  You can reach me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Thanks

From Jamie deJonge, Aug 19: If you would like to help with the following project please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  From Steve Baker----> As you know KCBT has graciously allowed my family to live in the mission’s house since moving back to KC. Well it needs a fresh coat of paint outside to preserve it for many years to come and to provide for others like it has for us! Jay has proposed…If our payer team will do the labor he will donate the money toward set-up costs for us in Spain. He has had a couple of estimates and says that the amount will be around $1200!!!! The dates for this fundraiser will be August 27,28.The 27th is a Friday and we will prep the house, scrape, sand, repair and then Saturday the 28th we will put a fresh coat of paint on this house of blessing! If your schedule allows would you consider helping us on this project.

From Sandy Weatherspoon, Aug 17: I was so excited when I left the doctor yesterday. God is so AMAZING! I had a CAT scan, a pulmonary function test and a couple other tests last week (to check damage to my lungs caused by Lupus.) The doctor was surprised at the results! He thought that the PFT numbers would be decreased. To be honest, so did I. God is so amazing because they had improved slightly! Slightly is great! The CAT scan showed scarring of my lungs had increased mildly but that was compared to a scan that I had 4 years ago.  Only mild scarring in 4 years ... that's great too! He thinks that the scarring is due to my 2 bouts with pneumonia. Thanks for your prayers. I know my lungs will never be the same but God has answered my prayer that they don't get any worse. I also had the dosage on 2 of my 6 medications decreased. Thanks again!

From Maria Riley, August 16: I need prayer for my grandmother Betty Gaitan.  She has lung cancer and a blood clot.  They only gave her a few months to live.  During a visit the other day she seemed scared, and before we all left she asked me to stay with her.  Since I couldn't I would like to pray that she receives comfort and peace from the Lord.  I want her to be happier in these last days than she ever has been. I know she knows Jesus, although I can't recall her speaking of him.  I ask that you also pray for her a deepening relationship with Christ.  Thank you so much

From Sam, August 12: Please pray for an old time college and career member Heather Kay whose father was recently killed in an automobile accident.

From Cheryl, August 12: Kenny and Lori Morgan are moving into their own place. Here are a few items they still need:  2 twin beds (or bunk beds or 1 full/queen bed), bedding for beds, pillows, dressers, bookshelves, living room chair, lamps. God has blessed with everything else! Thank you so much!

From Karen, August 11: The meeting at the Research Psychiatric Center went even better than I expected. They are very open to us coming in there and doing Bible studies and maybe eventually a church service. Thanks for praying. They do a background check and TB skin tests before volunteers are allowed to work with clients. I’ve already started the process so we’ll see what the Lord does. It’s pretty exciting! Love, Karen

From Natalie, August 11: My two man body beach towel did not make it back from camp... It was hanging outside the girls Dorm #3.  Please let me know if you happened to have picked it up. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

From Brian Bustos, August 11: I wanted to thank Midtown for the prayer for Ali and I.  Ali gave birth to Fisher Willard Bustos last night around 11pm.  The little guys doing great.  We are blessed to be a part of Midtown.

From Lindsay Templeton, August 10: I didn't find out until today and I still haven't officially gotten my certified letter, but apparently I will not have a job with the KCMO School District this year. Trusting in the Lord to provide for my family. Thanks for your prayers.

From Jason, Aug 10: Hey it's Jason Jolly and I am wondering if there is anyone who is available to help me paint my Dads house so that he will not get fined by the State. He is having health issues and is not able to do it all himself by the dead line. He knows who Jesus is but he is not saved and this could be a very good opportunity for him to be ministered to as well. If anyone is able to help please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 816-308-2563. If you have a forty foot ladder or other supplies that would be helpful as well. Thank you.

From Kayoko, July 29: Please keep Miyoko in prayer. She got into a car accident when she was riding a bike last Wednesday. I didn't know until now. She has no broken bones regardless of the big bruises and swell legs.

From Jisoo, July 28: I’m still in Korea and wanted to share a praise and prayer request. I got confirmation about my grandma's salvation through my aunt. She told me that my grandma was going to church and read the Bible with her when my grandma was healthier. So, praise the Lord! But, my grandma's health situation is really not good. She is like a human vegetable. She can't talk, move, or eat... She barely blinks her eyes and makes sound, but no one can understand. Please keep praying for my grandma. Also, pray for my dad. I thank God because my dad's heart is very open and believes God and Jesus, but not as his savior. He asked me to pray for his faith and salvation. That is a lot of progress compared to the past. Thanks, Jisoo

From Norma, July 28: Please pray for my uncle who is having open heart surgery tomorrow morning in Independence.  Thank you.

From Shari: Sarannah Paul is performing in 3 dances on Saturday afternoon in HADC's home school ballet performance of "Rigoletto." I have 4 free tickets for 1:30pm at the Liberty Performing Arts Theater just off of Hwy 291 in Liberty. PLEASE take these tickets...they are free and the show will be good! From Gene Purtle, July 22: Hi friends, I am reaching out on behalf of one of our reentry clients. He is in need of a dresser. He is staying temporarily with friends while he gets settled in a job and saves enough for his own place. They have an extra room and a bed, but all of his clothing is just in boxes. Might anyone have a tall dresser they would be willing to donate? If so contact Rickey Peters at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

From Sandra G, July 21: Thank you all so very much for praying for me! I went to the orthopedic Dr. on Tuesday and found out that my arm is fractured in 2 places, but he said it was the good kind to have and that it will not require surgery! Thanks to all your prayers and most of all to our AWESOME God!!! It could have been so much worse! Will just have to stay in the sling for 3 - 6 weeks and not use it for the time, thanks again guys! Love you all, Sandra

From Alice Ferrante, July 18: Stephen has been down with Diverticulitis. He went to the doctor last Friday and is now on antibiotics but is still running a fever. Please pray for his health to be restored as it is not only painful but affects his contracting work. His temp has been on average 101 this week. He has eaten very little and is very weak. When he does eat, he is in severe pain.  Thank you for your prayers.

From Sandra G, July 14: Rude' and I went on a canoe trip this past Sunday thru Tuesday. On Tuesday, we had pulled the canoe over to a small strip of ground and got out to have a look around. I wasn't paying close enough attention to my footing, (evidently!) when I stepped on a branch and lost my balance. I then proceeded to fall with my left arm stretched out in front of me which , halted my fall, but I heard a loud crunch in my shoulder, then hit my head on the tree and hit the ground. I was in so much pain that I was naucious and dizzy and Rude' said I passed out twice. The pain in my shoulder has been quite severe ever since this happened Tuesday morning. Wednesday I saw a doctor and had x-rays and an MRI and was given a script for strong pain pills. I am asking my Midtown family if you all will pray that it won't be anything too severe, (they will more than likely be sending me to an orthopedic Dr.) and especially that it won't need surgery. My Dr. this morning said that it could be a fracture of some sort and they really need to find out what's going on in there so that I don't lose my range of motion. The pain has been severe and am truly asking for prayer, I know that my Lord Jesus promised that He would not leave me comfortless! Thanks, I really need my family to be praying for me! Love, Sandra

From Kayoko, July 12: Thank you for sending out the prayer request to the MBT family. Thank the Lord!! KCPL said it will take 2-3 days until we get the power and light back. But The power is back in the house!  Thank you so much for praying!  Kids are so excited to seeing how God is answering prayers through this event.  :-) Love you! Kayoko

From DeAnna, July 12: I’m going to get a CT scan tomorrow morning. If that doesn’t show anything, my doctor suggested going to KU Med’s diagnostic center. Then I’d have 5 doctor’s collaborating on a diagnosis. I think I have a hole in my diaphragm. Michael and I prayed for an answer and then that same day Anita tells me about her aunt. Thanks for all the prayer.

From Claudia Santos, July 12:  Some updates from Brazil. At church I joined the Christian Women in Action group (sorry for the free translation of their real name, I hope it makes sense for you), which is a ministry totally devoted to bring, keep, and help women and their needs in our church. I started to work with the leader, as her assistant, doing clerk work, helping when we have prayer meetings at church, providing children care during the service, and so forth. This is a special ministry because we have lots of women in need at our place and we are a small group who can really work. Once we have a large number of elderly women, I would like to ask you guys to pray for this ministry to God allows us to improve it. Some ideas have already done like the widow's meeting and book's discussion. This very week we are having our biblical school for children who are on winter break. The school is open to the community so we also have children who come from not saved families. We have an historic of people who get saved by attending this specific school (our piano player is one of them). This year we are telling Noah's history and emphasizing obedience and trusting God. So, please, pray for we can reach some families through the powerful word of God which is gonna be taught to their children. I was quite jealous about your experience at El Salvador and would love to have you guys here (I'm kidding, I prayed that everything could be done safely and was happy to read that everything was absolutely perfect. Praise the Lord). Then, I would love to have you guys here in Brazil. I know it's more expensive and needs more planning but who knows we can meet again this side of America? Let's just pray for it and see what happen. Just one more thing: I've just lost my job at Brown Forman's Brazilian office (whiskey Jack Daniel's distillery). Actually I wasn't happy there and was about quitting. I've been praying for being obedient, once God allowed me to have this job. Now I'm looking for another job as a secretary but things are pushing me back to college as a teacher. Since I got here, got my old part time job as an assistant teacher (all the work is preparing and evaluating tests but never having an in-class task), and now I got 2 classes on Saturdays in a regular basis in another school. I'm just thinking what it means, so please, pray for me to help me figure out what He wants me to do and where or how I can serve Him better. I hope everything is okay for you and pray that God keeps working wonderfully through MBT's members. Please say hi to Pastor Sam and all Choir's members. I love and miss all of you. Claudia

From Kayoko, July 12: I wanted to let you know if anyone is trying to keep in touch with the Abernathy's, we were affected by the micro storm. We couldn't make any contact until now. And we haven’t had power in the house since Sunday. My kids and I are at my mother in law's house this after noon to get a way from the heat right now. Please pray that the power comes back quickly and for the safety and protection for family and house during this time. Thank you, Love in Christ, Kayoko

From SaDonna, July 11: We have a rental in Raytown that needs a renter.  Ours will be moving out around the first of August.  It is a 3 bedroom, 1 bath, washer and dryer all ready there, pretty big fenced backyard, and 1 car garage. It is a nice home and it is in a good neighborhood.  We will allow pets but they will need to pay an extra 15.00 a month on rent to take care of carpet cleaning if needed, security deposit equal to first month’s rent and sign a 1 year lease.  Rent is 650.00 and it is located near 435 and 350hwy in Raytown.  Please contact Todd DeVaney at 913-461-3632 if interested.  Thx Todd and SaDonna

From Kayoko, July 6: I talked with Miyoko last night. She is doing good. She lost weight and looks happier. :-)  This is the update for this week. Praise: After Miyoko shared about SOT to the leaders, Pastor Orita looked over the SOT materials (Miyo showed the one from the SOT boot camp and it was about 2-3 months ago?). He decided that they will change the way they do their Bible study to SOT. (The way they were doing their bible study was someone come up to share what they were studying or the book he or she is going through. And there was not an accountability in the Word.)  Pastor Orita asked Miyoko to explain about SOT to church this Sunday. SOT will start the first week of August and go every month. Prayer request: For SOT which will start in Aug. and for miyoko to say what God wants her to say when she communicates to the church about SOT this Sunday.  Pray for her heart attitude toward the youth pastor Kenichi. For her to live up the Ephesians 4:32  instead of having a judgmental attitude toward her brother in Christ.  July 24th, a group of people are going on a day trip to the fall/river.  Pray for a time of blessing and safety. The church camp is August 14 and 15th. Thank you so much for your prayers!  Kayoko

From Kylie, July 6: Hello everybody, First of all, thank you so much for the birthday wishes! It's been wonderful to spend my birthday here, celebrating with my El Salvador family. We finished up the family conference and had church Wed. night, where I had the opportunity to sing and praise God in the service. Thursday, I met with some of the youth group girls, and we went over some material assigned in youth group the week before, and then had a good time of fellowship playing ping pong! On Friday, as soon as the girls got off school, we went to Corinto. We got to see a farm that the pastor and his family built, and it was encouraging, edifying, relaxing and beautiful. That evening, in Corinto, we got together with the small group that meets there. Keeley and I sang, and Ryan had the opportunity to share a message on the importance of the Word of God and spending time with God in a relationship, instead of just duty. On Saturday, we spent the morning with a family in the church and then in the afternoon, went to Keeley and Ryan's disciples house, and we spent time together with them. Sunday was church in the morning, and then a lunch for the disciplers. It was up on a mountain, and we had a little mini hike to get up to their house. After that, the Blackstocks had meetings at the church, and then we had the evening service. It was a long, but wonderful day. On Monday, for my birthday, we went to a pool to play, and Avigail, Ella, and I had so much fun. We had BLT's for lunch and ice cream for dessert with one of the families I've gotten close to while I've been here. Keeley even made a beautiful butterfly shaped chocolate cake. Thanks, Keeley!! Today we're going to a listening group in a town called Tablon, which is close to Corinto. They use a proclaimer, which is a little radio with the Bible dramatized on it. A lot of the people can't read, so it's the way they apply their lives to the Word of God. What God has shown me this week is the importance in discipleship; not just the 16 lessons or the Directions book, but pouring your life into someone else in order to help them establish and grow in their relationship with the Lord. In this culture, it's the relationship that's important, not just telling someone about the Jewish feasts or how to cross reference. Jesus took uneducated men and used them to turn the world upside down by training them on the field. He invited them to join Him instead of teaching them the information and sending them off on their own without first hand training and experience. It should be the same way in my  relationships. I'm going to miss everyone so much here, but I've learned a lot, and I think it's time for me to come home and apply it. Thanks again for praying, and if you could please throw up a couple more as my time wraps up, that I could have a few more chances to be a blessing and learn from these incredible people until I arrive home on Saturday. Also, I'm having a little tummy trouble, so if you wouldn't mind praying for physical health, I would appreciate it. Thanks so much! Que Dios les bendiga, Kylie

From Kayoko Friday, July 2: I wanted to share a praise about Miyo: she got a new job!!!! It's a steel company she will be working for (She will not be making steel, she will be working at desk.  :-) ) She'll start working next week. The transition from the old job to the new job was planned perfectly, and she will not have unpaid week! This company offered exactly what she asked which was Saturdays and Sundays off. Praise God for answering prayer and providing for her need!   Thank you for praying!

From Kylie, June 29: Hello Everyone!! Thanks for praying! Things are going great here in Gotera, El Salvador. The Blackstocks are fabulous, and Ella and Avigail are beautiful, smart, wonderful little girls. I've been here since last Saturday, and so far, it's been a huge blessing to me. The group from Midtown Baptist Temple for the evangelism trip left early in the morning on Saturday after a blessed, fruitful week of sharing the gospel in schools and helping a church plant in La Libertad. After that, Ryan, Keeley, the girls and I drove the 3 hours to east El Salvador. The weather is pretty hot here, but it's rainy season, so it's a lot cooler than it would be in dry season, haleluja!!!! During the week here, there are 4 services: 1 Sunday morning, 1 Sunday evening, 1 Wednesday night, and 1 Thursday night for the youth. I've also been doing Tae Kwon Do with the Blackstocks, which has been a hot, sweaty, but super fun time! We are in the middle of a family conference right now in Cacaopera, which is a little town 25 minutes away from Gotera. Sunday night was for men, Monday night for women, and tonight focuses on children. Keeley and I have been blessed to have opportunities to do a couple specials each night, and I had the chance to sing last Thursday. I'm going to be sharing a little devotional/testimony possibly this Thursday. I was supposed to do it last week, but there was a little miscommunication:). There are small listening groups up in the mountains where little clusters of people have radios where they can listen to the Bible dramatized. We're going to go to one on Tuesday and talk to the people and listen with them, so I'm excited about seeing that. My purpose in coming here was to see a different type of missionary life and experience new things that will better equip me to serve wherever God leads me, and I've already seen and done some things that have changed my way of thinking. Keeley was telling me yesterday about some of the very poor, as we would say, "third-world" people here are completely content in their way of thinking. They don't want some North American coming in and "helping" them get electricity or plumbing or teach them how to read. They have Christ; they have all that's necessary to live a fulfilled life, and they don't need lightbulbs or toilets to be happy. I have a couple prayer requests. Ella is sick right now with vomiting and diarrhea, and so if you could please pray for healing for her. Also, pray for more opportunities for me to be a blessing to the Blackstocks, minister to the youth here, and share the gospel before I head home on July 10th. Thanks everyone!!! Love in Christ, Kylie

From Missy, June 29: Rocky Mountain Baptist Fellowship youth camp went really great. Brent Blaise preached and brought some students from Washington for the camp. Brent used to be over the prayer team for the church in Montana so it was very sweet to have the time together.  One student got saved! My sister Lesley was healthy through the camp! New prayer request: My sister Lesley is having her gallbladder removed tomorrow. Please pray that it would go smoothly and that she has a quick recovery. She will be off work for 2 weeks but if they are not able to do the surgery laparoscopic ally then it will be 6 weeks. She does have 2 young kids as well as a husband to care for. A major praise is that tomorrow is the last day of her current insurance, we were praying they could get her in before it ended.

From Will, June 24: Hello World:  While I may have been missing in action from midtown the last month or so, I have not stopped walking and working with the Lord. That being said, I have an update on my Mom. Her name is Dixie and she has Stage 1 Brest Cancer.  She goes in to have it removed on Tuesday June 29th. They found it very early and everything seems to indicate that she will recovery from it ok. Following the surgery, there will be 5 weeks of chemo. Yes she is saved and has been walking the Lord for many years. Her reaction to the news was normal, but she told me today that She "KNOWS" God is all over this event. My uncertainty was should I be there when she goes into the hospital or not.  -- The family has decided I didn't need to travel back to Illinois at this time.  My request is that you pray for her husband George. George was saved as a child but has not walked with God in many decades and it shows. He is not supporting her through this and .... well...  my request is prayers for him as well.  --- Thank you for your Prayers and phone calls.   ~Will

From Marie, June 24: I have a prayer request.  It seems like every Sunday something comes up to prevent us from going to church.  I'll be fine all week and wake up Sunday morning with chills and body aches.  I really need prayer to keep my family focused on the Lord and His family regardless of circumstances.  Also,  I need a job so that we can find a place to live after our lease runs out in 3 months.  I'm praying for a 'public safety dispatcher' position. Thank you so much for keeping me in touch with what's going on in church! Thanks, Love, Maria

From Cindy P, June 24: Please keep our family in your prayers. Destani got hurt and we have been keeping her home. She knocked a pot of hot water off on herself and burned her shoulder. I saw it falling out of the corner of my eye and was able to knock it away from her.  I burned my wrist and leg but am fine. We are having issues with our house due to all the rain and the toilet was stopped up so I was going to pour hot water down it.  I thought she was in the living room.  Fortunately the burn was only 1st degree, she will not scar and is almost completely healed. Since she has MRSA we kept her out of school last week and kept an eye on her.  Fortunately no outbreaks.  She has a doctors appt this morning.  She went back to school Monday and is fine. We have been having problems with the house the last couple of months and getting the maintenance people to do anything is next to impossible.  This week part of my living room ceiling has fallen and he doesn't know when he can get there to fix it.  He won't work early so I can get to work and won't work after 5 and doesn't want to work on Saturdays.  We would like to move but so far haven't found anything affordable.  Just trusting God.

From Tim, June 24: Will S found out Tues. evening that his mom has breast cancer. She will be having surgery on the 29th to remove one breast and some lymph nodes. She is a Christian, but, according to Will, she is afraid and is struggling to understand God's will in this. She lives in Illinois or Iowa, I don't remember, and Will is trying to figure out what he needs to do. Can you all please pray for Will and his mom, for strength, healing, and that they will draw nearer to God and each other during this trial. Thanks, Tim

From Bryan B, June 23: My old boss and friend from KCBT (chris marks) called me and he is in the hospital.  His kidneys are failing.  Please pray that the fluids the dr.'s are pumping through him do what they are supposed to and that his kidneys would be responsive.  He's staying overnight so they can run more tests and monitor him.      thanks,

From Missy, June 21:  My sister and her husband, TJ and Lesley Templeton, work with the youth group at Rocky Mountain Baptist Fellowship in Missoula Montana. This week they are at camp. If you could please be in prayer for the hearts of the students. Also, my sister Lesley is having gallbladder issues. Her surgery is not until after camp. If you could also pray that she will not be in pain and be focused on camp. Love and thanks, Missy Bailey

From Rachel, June 21:  Jim, (who works with Chris Alexander and has helped on MBT's roofing multiple times) fell off a roof last Friday while carrying 2 buckets of hot asphalt (about 550 degrees). He was at KU in the burn unit, but has been released. He and his family have visited MBT.  We don't believe he's saved. Please pray for him and his family.

From Emily M., June 15: I wanted to ask people to continue to pray for my mom. Those who do not know, my mom JoAnne has lung cancer. They are saying the kind of cancer she has is the most treatable. I fly out tomorrow to be with my mom for two weeks. Keep Chris ,Iliana and Gavin in your prayers also while I am away. Thanks!! Emily

From Missy, June 15: The Bailey family is going camping. We will be spending the rest of the week with Guy's family that is far from knowing Christ. If you all could pray that their hearts would be soft and for opportunities to show the love of Christ. Eva and I are very sensitive to the heat so if you could also pray that God would protect us. We found out this morning that the AC in our car is broken. I see this as satan already attacking. Thanks and Love, Missy

Great update on Miyoko from Kayoko, June 9: Miyoko has been ministering in Japan to my grandmother (my father side). My grandma left my grandpa when I was in elementary school. No matter what the reason was at that time, for her to leave her husband was a big No and they said that she brought shame to my grandpa and family. For that, my family was forced to disown her. After grandpa passed away, we started to get back in touch but she still live by herself and she works (cleaning buildings and help out the farmer's time to time ) to support her living. Miyoko visits her every week.  She gave her the bible and track. Grandma called Miyoko one day last week, and asked her to come over on Sunday. So, Miyoko told her about church on Sunday and invited her. And this is what grandma said. "That sounds wonderful. How wonderful it would make me feel to hear the preaching and sing to God on Sunday morning! I would love to visit your church."Lately grandma is forgetful. We think it's an early stage of Alzheimer.   ---In the Kinki area of Japan, the Baptist Bible churches are being attacked by people who hate Christians. Many Church windows got stoned and broken, being burned down and etc..  My dad saw the news early that day and he was talking to Miyoko how he was shocked and moved when he saw the interviews of Christians of that church. The reporter asked the Christians "what do you think about all this and what would you like to say to the people who are attacking you guys." Christians said in calm manner " we don't know who but if anyone is upset with us, please come see us, we would like to know if there is anything we can do to help." When dad was talking to Miyoko about this, some show came up on Local TV channel.  It was about a old Christian lady who got saved and shortly after, she lost her husband and then 2 of her children in a different time frame. She sat on her piano and sang Christian song. She was at peace about her situation. She sounded very confident in who she believes. As dad witnessed all this, he said to Miyoko. "There is something about Christians. They are so pure in heart and there is no one like them." A few days ago, When dad went out to drink, he was bragging about Miyoko to a owner of the restaurant, how she used to be a drinking buddy and to the point he was worried about her health. But then goes to America for school and came home as a Christian and totally changed. -----Ryutaro, our youngest brother and his girlfriend are invited and planning to go to the bible camp at church this summer. When Miyoko invited Ryutaro to come visit the church on Sundays before the camp. He was hesitated.  But then, my dad (who was there during this conversation) told Ryutaro to "Go to church and ask God to clean your filthy heart!!" God is definitely breaking down the walls and softening their hearts! Prayer requests: Please pray for Grandma. Her name is Chiyoko. For her salvation. She might have an early stage of Alzheimer but God is able in any situation. Ask God to remind her about Sunday service. Also for her health. Please continue to pray for dad, mom and brothers. From Kathy Mehl, June 1: Hello our dear prayer warriors, We hope that you all are doing well and for those of you in the USA, we hope you are enjoying the summer months. We are writing to ask a special prayer for Hillary. She is responding well to the new antibiotics- praise the Lord. The doctors come twice a day to do a cleaning of the drainage tube in her neck - this process is so painful and has become a weakness for Hillary-mentally. About 3 hours before the doctors come, she starts getting really nervous, starts to cry, and is having panic attacks. She knows this cleaning needs to be done in order for her to get better, but it is such a horrible experience, she can't handle it. They are giving her Demerol 30 minutes before, but even with that, this morning, she was hysterical. She did it, but through a lot of crying Tonight the doctor is going to give her a sedative before the cleaning - hopefully that will calm her down today. Many of you have sent the following verse to her:"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest." Joshua 1:9 This has helped her a lot. Please continue to pray that God gives her the strength she needs especially during the cleaning process and that this abscess heals completely so that they can close her up and release her from the hospital. Thank you so much for the sacrifice you make to pray for Hillary. God bless you, Kathy on behalf of my daughter Hillary

From Linda B, June 1: Hi Everyone, I spoke to the El Salvador consulate today and just wanted to let you know that they approved my visa and will send my passport back to me this week. Thank you for all the prayers! ~Linda~

From Cindy P, June 1: Please ask the church to lift up my family as my Dear Aunt passed this morning at 94 years young.  She was a great woman of God however several family members are not saved.  I pray that her life and passing serve as a testimony to others in the family. Heather and I will be traveling this Thursday for graveside services on Friday and I ask for traveling mercies as we just returned from the area last night. From Deb, May 20:  Pam Warner finally has her surgery scheduled for next Wednesday; and it looks like she may have found a solution to her daughters’ care while she’s recovering.  Thanks so much for your prayers. We’ll be scheduling meals for her family after the surgery.  If you can help please contact Christina at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. From Deb, May 14: Pam Warner has injured her knee and is a catch 22 insurance abyss between workman’s comp and her health insurance... The two entities are contending about who will pay for the surgery... The surgeon will not move forward with surgery until this has been resolved... He also says that if she doesn’t have surgery soon, she’s in danger of blowing out her knee cap, which would require even more intense surgery. Please keep her and her family in your prayers as she seeks solutions to these difficulties.

From Cindy P, May 13: please keep my family (2 daughters-their husbands and 5 grandchildren) and friends in your prayers as Monett, MO was hit this morning by a tornado which destroyed Pizza Hut and several other buildings.  My 94 year old Aunt is in a nursing home but it was not hit.  The storm turned and headed north about a quarter mile west of the nursing home. At this time I have heard from one of my closet friends and former coworker who happened to be working from home this morning.  Have not been able to reach others. Everyone is ok just shaken. This area has been hit several times the past few years. Thanks Love in Christ. Cindy & Destani

From Kayoko, May 12: Thank you for the prayers.  Miyoko told me that she got to talk to her youth pastor Kenichi about prayer meeting. his answer was it's OK to announce and let everybody know what Miyoko and a few others are meeting for prayer. But he can't submit to announce that the church will be having a prayer meeting.  Miyoko asked him why. He says a few years ago there was a group of believers(deacons) who strongly disagreed to what the church decided to do. And there is a group of people who will feel like they are forcing them to pray...and so and so. And he says his heart is not ready to handle the situation like that yet.  Miyoko thank you all for the prayers, as much as she wanted to say more and argue the point, The Holy spirit reminded her to stop there and drop it. So, this is where the prayer comes in. She asked us to Continue lift up Kenichi. He fears what people say and think. Pray that God will stir Orita sensitive heart for the whole church coming together for the prayer meeting. (They have a prayer group but it is limited to older people mostly for old aged men or women group. and they meet during the day which makes impossible for the people who works during the day. we are praying that the prayer meeting will be open to every believers in the church for committed weekly meeting. like MBT prayer night.) She will be applying a job at American consulate in Fukuoka (their location is very close to her church). For those ladies which Miyo shared the gospel and has been ministering to at her current job. Please pray that they will make the decision or come to church before she gets out from the job. here are their names. That is all for now. Miyoko is checking the MBT news letter every week. listening to every service message through the MBT website.  She is praying for us all with 3 other believers in her church. In Christ Love, Kayoko

From Missy, April 29: My sister Jennifer and her husband Jason have been awaiting the arrival of the baby they are adopting. Well, last night baby girl Chloe was born! I have asked many to be in prayer for all the details. My sister was able to be there for the birth in Montana but we still need prayer because the baby should be released from the hospital tonight. If you all could pray that there is no issues and that the adoption process has no hitches. Thanks and love, Missy

From Larry Smith, April 28: Please pray for Haley – she has been extremely run down and dizzy with headaches for the last month and the doctors haven’t really pinpointed the cause. We were in the ER most of Monday night and they thought that it might be a urinary infection + dehydration but she hasn’t gotten much better with the antibiotics…. Thanks!

From Kim Hines, April 28: I am calling all of our church family at MBT to pray for Kaiya who is 15 years old and has Cystic Fibrosis.  She has been waiting for more than two years for a double-lung transplant.  She is a very unique case because of her size, blood type and antibodies.  After almost two years at her first transplant center, they denied Kaiya the surgery.  Not willing to be devastated, they accepted it as God's will and He blessed she and her mom, Kisha (my best friend) to move to Duke University Medical Center.  After two months at Duke, she was finally "listed" there last week - put on the national transplant list.  I visited them this past weekend and Kaiya is praying and using all her strength to prepare for this grueling surgery and post-surgery regimen.  I just got the call a few moments ago that they may have found compatible lungs for her.  Please pray that if it's God's will that these lungs would be a perfect match for Kaiya, that her body will receive them and that her recovery would be as speedy as possible.  Also, please pray for Kisha's strength during and after the surgery.  Kisha has been away from her other daughter Sydney and the rest of her family for many months to be with Kaiya and give her medical care.  She and her husband were divorced in the middle of all this.  Please pray for their family unit to continue to be strong and supportive.  Please pray for wisdom and steadiness for the surgeons and that Kaiya would be favored in the hospital.  Through Kaiya, friends and family have come to Christ.  Kisha was saved because of Kaiya's belief and great faith!  She is truly and special young lady.  I will keep you posted.  If the lungs are a good match, she will be in surgery by 8 p.m. EST this evening.  UPDATE April 29:: The lungs were found to be compatible and Kaiya went into surgery last evening at around 10:30 EST.  Her surgery finished this morning at around 6 a.m., but there were complications.  She is on a special machine to keep her new lungs from filling up with fluid.  She is allergic to Heparin, but they had to use it during the procedure and that is causing issues.  Also the antibodies in her blood may want to fight against the lungs.  The next 72 hours are critical to find out if her body will reject the lungs.  Please continue to pray for her in all of these areas - and that she will continue to fight for her life. Blessings, Kimberly

From Kayoko, April 25:   For Miyoko's job situation. She is planning to leave her current job next month because they will start making her work every Sunday. And there would be no negotiation about the schedule. She is looking for a new job.  Blessing for her SOT and please continue to pray for all the believers in her church in Japan for revival. Pastor’s wife Yoko has a desire to have missionary from abroad to their church one day.

From Kathy Mehl, April 24:    Edith/Carmen's status:  Thank you all for praying for the very delicate situation happening with Edith/Carmen.  We have no news about Carmen's location or even if she is alive; however, Edith went to the Police Department the other day and they have taken one of the head gang members into custody.  This weekend they are interrogating him about the disappearance of Carmen and the deaths of several other young women.  Please pray that God touches this man's heart, that he submits to the local authorities and cooperates, and that he knows the whereabouts of Carmen.  Please continue to pray for God' protection over Carmen and her safe return home.  Spiritually, Edith is doing well, trusting in the Lord and focusing on Him.  She really appreciates your prayers and wants to convey her thanks to you all.  She said she knows many people are praying because each morning when she wakes up, she feels God's strength and courage which gives her the ability to face the challenges before her.  The police asked Edith to come back to their station on Monday morning and hopefully they would have information about Carmen.  Please continue to pray for Edith and that on Monday she will have some news about her daughter.

Actually I got my old part-time job at the university as a Assistant Teacher and got a full-time job as a Trilingual Executive Secretary in an American company which is starting its business in Brazil. I would like to thank all MBT members who has been praying for me. God is absolutely awesome and perfect in time. I really understood why I should have came back to Brazil. Please say hello to Pastor Sam and add that I've been attending IEBAM - Igreja Evangélica Batista no Alto da Móoca (Baptist Church - www.iebam.org.br), my regular church. From Shari, April 14: Please pray for MBT’s outreach and the spiritual condition at Community Linc... Lots of attacks are occurring...

From Mehl’s, April 7: We want to thank everyone who has been diligently praying for the situation with Edith and her daughters. We have received so many encouraging notes and phone calls. On behalf of Edith's family and our church family, we want to thank you for ministering to us during this trying time. First of all, I want to clarify something: Edith has three children: her son Oscar is 25 years old is married to a wonderful Christian young lady named Wendy and they have a two-year old daughter named Wendy. They are all well and helping Edith cope with this situation. Edith's daughter Carmen is 24 years old and she is the one that is missing. Her youngest daughter Sandra is the one that went home to be with the Lord - she was 22 years old and left behind a 9-month old adorable boy named Stephen Kelvin. Secondly, Edith wants to thank you all for your prayers. Yesterday at the funeral service for Sandra, she knew many people were praying for her and said that the Lord gave her strength, courage, and wisdom to handle this difficult time in her life. She asks that you continue to pray that God uses this to reach her family with the gospel. As advised by the Police Department, our family and church members did not attend the funeral services because of this delicate situation. It was so hard not to be with Edith and her family, but at the same time, everybody knew that this was the wisest decision. Thank you for your prayers for wisdom and discernment. This afternoon we called Edith. She sounded strong in the Lord. Her words confirm her faith in God's promises - she is an amazing Christian woman. She said that this afternoon she went to the Police Department again to see if they have any news about her daughter Carmen. They have no news. Carmen is on the missing persons list and the local police are doing what they can to try to find her. Please continue praying for God's protection for Carmen and her safe and quick return home. In our phone conversation, Edith told us she wants to come back to work on Monday. We want her to take more time, but she said she wants to be busy and being at church and with us at home is where she wants to be. She will be staying at home the rest of this week in case Carmen returns or the Police receive any news. Edith said, "Carmen is God's child to do of His good pleasure (Phil. 2:13). I just want God to reveal to me if He has given her more time here on earth or whether He has taken her home." On behalf of Edith, we ask that you please pray that Carmen's whereabouts be made known to Edith in a timely manner and that whatever the outcome is, that God gives Edith and her family peace that passes all understanding, that God's name is glorified, and that God uses this to save souls.

From Julie, April 5: Do you know of a UMKC student (girl)  that is looking to room with someone?  My niece, Mindy, will be starting at UMKC this fall and she is going to be staying at the UMKC appt like dorms.  She said they are the new ones...I can't remember the name.  But I am praying that the Lord will hook her up with a Christian young lady that goes to Midtown.  Would you know of anyone that is needing a roommate?  I don't know the cost, but it is a two bedroom, with even has a washer and dryer and is on the campus.  She is going for a business degree.  I would love to hook her up with you and some of the girls there at Midtown. From Mark, March 31: Recently I found out that my father is having heart rhythm issues.  On top of that he is suffering from dementia due to unchecked diabetes and is refusing ambulance rides and leaving the hospital when asked to stay.  He lives in Oklahoma in terrible poverty with broken windows, no heat, no electricity and no water.  Its been an emotional mess trying to handle this as all my other siblings are in other parts of the world and offering no assistance.  I'm letting you know this because first I could use some prayers and also to let you all know the reason for my recent absence.  I miss you all and please give everyone my love.  I should be there on Sunday. God bless you all, Mark Gifford

From Ingrid, March 30: I was let go from my job, ...I am still in shock. I have a small glimmer of hope and would like to ask for prayer.  Another department is interested in having me and actually believed I was coming there, they are looking to see if they can fund my salary in their budget. Please add this to the prayer list.

From Kenny, March 30: We're not sure of all who was involved in ministering to our family with food, silverware, dishware... but we want to express a genuine thank you to those people. It meant a lot to our family and in more ways than one, it was a real blessing. The Morgan’s

From Jeanette, March 25: Please pray for Bobbie, she's the girl from Westport High Kara and I worked with on and off last year. She contacted me Sunday night and told me she has leukemia and she's currently going through chemotherapy at Children's Mercy. Please pray God will use these circumstances to soften her heart and give her a desire for the things of God - and to save her! She was never very open or interested in spiritual things before, or at least she didn't show it.  (She's reading her new testament a little...gospel of John, says it’s ok LOL!)

From Gladys, March 16: Dear MBT Family:  Matthew 8:27   But the men marveled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! I want to say:  Thank you, to everyone who has been praying for my family’s situation, I am confident that God will bless you for standing up with me in this fight.  It has been a long journey full with obstacles and a requirement on my part, of full faith and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ.  Today, I found out that the house my family has being struggling to complete a short sale on, has been completed! The whole process will be finished at the beginning of April, praise God! Although the war is not yet finished God is moving in my father’s life.  I want you to know that this is an answer to prayer not only financially, but it is a spiritual answer to our prayer.  We are fighting for his soul and my whole family. There have being times when I thought “God, would you not come through? Would you not call them to you?” Please understand that, that is only a reflection of weakness not wickedness, for I know that He is faithful to us who call upon Him. This is a time of celebration to our Savior, and also a time when we cannot let our guard down, this week I was able to share the Gospel with my father in a way I never had before and I know that God is moving! I also know that so is the enemy.  But this week, precisely this week is when God chose for the house to sell, amazing! May this short testimony encourage you in your walk; in you talk, in your life.  May you be reminded that no matter how big the storm, Jesus is there to calm the seas and the winds that come your way!  2 Cor 4:1-12 Love in Christ, Gladys

From Connie (Fyffe’s aunt), March 15:  Please pray for our son Aaron  who has brain cancer (he's 26.)

From Cynthia L, March 15:  My son-in-law Gabe, is in prison and accepted Christ as Savior. Please pray for him.

From Jisoo, March 15: I shared the prayer request long time ago about one of my students, Perla, who had a brain surgery and was not able to get out of comma. She is much better now and will be able to attend the school after the spring break. God is great because she was in comma over a month and no one thought she could recover. But, nothing is impossible to God!!

From the Mehl’s in El Salvador, March 14:  New Bus – still have not gotten the bus out of customs.  Yes, the bus Jim drove down from KC last year.  They have changed the laws and require new paperwork from us.  Please pray that we get this situation resolved before March 17.  If possible, we really need this bus when the team from Florida comes down on the 20th.

From Sandra, March 11: Hi fellow Midtowners, Here's where the rubber hits the road, where we can be used by Jesus to be His hands and feet. From Harold Finch, March 11: Hi Friends, I’m designated as a surgery Care Partner to interface between patient and nursing team. Since I don’t have much free time I am forwarding our daughter Susan’s report. I appreciate your inquiries and especially your prayers.  God is good!!!Harold ---- From Susan: The doctor came and talked to us at 12:45 pm today and said her surgery was a wonderful success. He found blood in her hip joint – that’s how irritated it had become. He got everything fixed up, and he said once he removed the bad bone, that her bones were very good for the new replacement. He said she will be pleased with her new hip, and he was very happy with the outcome saying it will change her life. It couldn’t have gone better. Physical therapy will get her up twice tomorrow – sit at the side of the bed, later sit in a chair, later walk down the hall. She was in recovery for just an hour or so, and when we went to her room, #551, she was wide awake talking, coherent and in no pain as the epidural and drugs were still in effect. Please keep praying for no problems with infection or blood clots. Thank you for your prayers and continued prayers. Susan and Family

From Joel Paul, February 23: I would like to thank all those folks who showed upon last Saturday, February 20, to tear down the deck at Community LINC. We will have about ten minutes to introduce everyone on the team and explain a little bit about what we are doing. After this the pastors will pray over us to send us out. This is going to be a very exciting time. Please try and be there to support us and come by after the service we will be in the lobby with the team.

From Karen A, Feb 23:  Just learned my oldest sister, Laura, is in the hospital with Steven Johnson's Syndrome. She has had a rash for many yrs and it has progressed. Now her skin in peeling off, her eyes are swollen and the doctor is planning on doing some biopsies. She hasn't started any new medications, but they put in a pic line. That's all the info I have, but this can be deadly depending on the progression. Please pray! I led her to Christ yrs ago, but she never really attended church or got to know our Lord better. She needs many prayers to heal,  she has many allergies and her home is very old. Thanks.

From Tim T, Feb 22: I have a hearing on Wed. concerning my disability. I have waited for well over 2 years for this to happen. I was severely injured in a car accident in 1993 and I haven't been able to work on a full time basis ever since, although for many years I tried to. I ask for prayer that God's will be done concerning the outcome of this hearing and that I will have the Peace that surpasses while I wait 30-90 days to know the Judge's decision. I need prayer as well for the continued provision that the Lord has provided thus far. Also, would you all please pray for my daughters. First of all Teresa who is saved, but, continues to make choices contrary to what God would have for her. The enemy seems intent on her not following after the Lord. Pray that Kristy and her husband Mike, that are not saved, and are expecting their second child, would come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord in their lives. Finally, for my adopted daughter Erica, that her and her son Shane would be saved and protected from evil. Thank you all for your prayers! Your brother, Tim.

From Jamie, Feb 21: Just an FYI about Jobs at the Census Bureau-- there is a testing at the Olathe Public Library (12990 Blackbob) on Feb 24th at 10:30 am (allow for 2 hours for test and paperwork). Plus, two forms of ID are required or a current Passport.

From Chelsea, Feb 20: I just wanted to pass on a prayer request for my Grandfather. He does not know the Lord and we've just discovered he's having an affair with a married woman 1/3 his age.. 4 months after my grandma has passed away. I'm really just asking for prayer for my family and for my grandpa's salvation. I've asked the church I'm attending here to pray, but I know and love Midtown Baptist Temple for being a house of prayer.. so I didn't think it would hurt to keep you guys updated on things going on down here and to ask for the prayers of the saints to help us through this. Thanks!

From Deb, February 18: God is really working in my brother, Jack’s life! Please continue to pray that God would clearly reveal Himself and His great love to him, and free him from bondage. Thanks.

From Kathy, February 18: Want to thank you for your prayers. Jim and I are safely back in El Salvador trying to get back into our normal routine. Hillary and Stephen are doing well. We want to thank you also for praying for the situation with our new bus. If you remember, Jim drove a school bus down to El Salvador last year. It has been in customs since last March. They just released from customs on Monday, and now Jim and Ruben are in the process of getting it licensed and tagged - should be out and ready to use by the end of next week. Please keep praying. We are hoping to have this bus when the next evangelism team comes down from Indian Rocks in Largo, Florida on March 20. We'll keep you all posted. Take care and have a great week.

From LaTisha, February 14:  Ryan, Lindsay, my family and I can't say thank you enough for the thoughts and prayers for our grandmother last week.  She is home and doing lots better.  She had a TIA and pneumonia.  We saw lots of improvement within a few short days.  She will have home care for the next month to work on some things.  Her memory was affected in some ways so please continue to pray for healing.  It’s such a blessing to have a sweet family church.  Thanks again.

From Jisoo, February 14: Kansas City Missouri School District is closing 32 schools next year. A lot of teachers and administrators will lose their job. Pray for God's protection and providence. My mom is very discouraged because her school is one of the closing schools. Pray that God will comfort her heart and give her peace. McCoy (where Kylie and I work at) is also one of the moving program/closing schools. I trust my God that He will take care of it somehow. :) Pray for God's protection and guidance over us. Thanks!

From Kylie, February 13: The elementary school that MBT has adopted (the one that Jisoo, Kara, and I work at, McCoy Elementary) is in danger of being closed. There is (was) a rally Tuesday night at 6:30. Please be praying that if God wants this school to stay open, there would be no attack on this meeting. There are a lot of kids and parents being helped by this school. We are also looking for male mentors for the boys (a lot of them are in gangs) and individuals to minister the Word of God in the school through Good News Club. Please support us through prayer and think about being a mentor or Good News Club worker. Thanks! –Kylie

From Deb, February 12: Missy Bailey’s grandfather is home under hospice care. Please keep this family in your prayers. If you would like to help and love on them by providing a meal, contact Laura at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

From Mandy, February 12:  You can remember Gralon with us on February 24...wear your orange, or wear your "faf" shirt stamped by Gregory Kolsto, or even better, use Gralon's Story to share w/ someone God's grace, mercy, & amazing gift thru his son Jesus Christ.  I'd love to hear if you do share w/ someone :) (Let me know if you'd like a copy of Gralon's Story.)

From Kayoko, February 12:  Miyoko and may parents are moving into a town that is full of the Mafia. Please pray for safety and opportunity to reach the lost.

From Shari, February 12:  Thank you for the prayers regarding my sister’s surgery last week. She is recovering well. Her case, however, has been reviewed by a panel of physician’s. They found a misdiagnosis as to the type of the cancer she has. Praise God this was found out now! The cancer still has not spread, but they are looking at different treatment options due to the invasiveness of this type. The most drastic treatment option appears to be a double mastectomy and complete hysterectomy. Please pray for continued wisdom on all those working with her case as well as for her and the family - decisions for treatment options will rest on her/them.

From Kyle, February 11:  I need to officially place my 2nd cousin on the prayer list.  He is the one who has been all over the news lately for the death of his own daughter.  Many in his family attend Abundant Life in Lee's Summit and know the Lord.  This is an horrific tragedy for so many and the weight is immense.  His name is Mark and he needs the Lord, desperately.  His father, and all the family are hurting beyond comprehension.  BUT GOD...!!   Psalm 73:26

From Doug Otto, February 9:  Hello every one we would like to ask for prayer for Rachel; her knee surgery will be February 16. There is only one shot at it because of cells they are growing for her. Also please ask for peace for Rachel. Would you guys also pray for Charley at school. Thanks so much and have good week!

From James Hollins, February 9: Grandma Templeton went for an MRI and the results show no signs of stroke.  They are looking for a possible infection which may be causing the confusion and unbalance.  Thanks for your prayers.

From James Hollins, Feb 9: Yesterday Ryan and Tish’s Grandma Templeton had to be admitted to the hospital.  Doctors are not sure exactly what is going on as of yet.  When Tisha got home she was not really alert and very confused.  She is having tests done today to try and figure out exactly what is going on, they are trying to rule out stroke and other things.  Also pray because Ryan and Tish’s dad Tim is trying to fly in this afternoon, but Indianapolis is getting hit with the storm that passed through here.  Please pray for strength and comfort, Ryan and Lindsay were with Grandma at St. Mary’s hospital all night.  Thanks and we will try and keep updates coming.

From Shari, February 5: Praise God! My sister’s operation went well and without complications! Her cancer did not spread to the lymph nodes - they believe they removed all cancer. She will still follow up with radiation treatments for a few weeks and they will monitor the benign spot in her left breast. But, her prognosis looks great! Thank you all for the prayers!

From Missy, February 3: My grandpa Ken has been diagnosed with brain cancer and given a week to live... He was admitted last night to the hospital for high heart rate and weakness. This morning a CT showed a brain tumor and he is also having some renal issues. I don't know if he is saved. My mom lives with him and I would appreciate prayers for her and her sister Becky. In Him, Missy

From Rosie, February 2: My Uncle is doing better. He sat up yesterday and was able to feed himself. He is showing signs of movement in his left leg, but his blood pressure is still high. He has a bed waiting for him at Truman Medical East Rehab, but he cannot be moved over there until his BP is more stable. I know with God as his Great Physician, he can make an astounding recovery and that is what my family is praying for. Thanks for all your prayers this past week. Continue to lift up his wife and 2 teenage boys.

From Brandon B, Feb 2: I wanted to let you know that my grandpa passed last night. He didn't seem to be in much pain and we were all with him which hopefully made things easier. It is a strange passing that takes place from the physical to the eternal but I am proud to say that he is present with my brother and sister and is now with Christ. I want to thank you for your prayers the last couple of weeks. It was a great reminder to me of how much people at MBT love and care for me. I love you guys and would ask that you continue to pray for my family. My Aunt Kathy, Uncle Ken, Cousin Ryan and Uncle David are all lost and have little to no concept of the authority of Jesus Christ. Call on God that he would use my family and the services to proclaim Christ's name. Thanks again for all of your support, Brandon

From Shari P, February 1:  My sister has breast cancer and will be having surgery on Wed, Feb 3rd to remove the cancerous spots in the right breast and some lymph nodes (to check if the cancer has spread). They have also found a spot in the left breast which is currently benign – but will be watched for any changes. After surgery, she will have radiation treatments 5x/wk for 6-8wks and will be on medicine for 5yrs. She professes Christ and in her written messages is showing amazing peace in all of this. Please pray as the Lord leads for her and her family as well as my parents who live with them.

From Deb M, February 1:

  • The Kennicutt family has been struggling with numerous illnesses the past couple months, please keep their health in your prayers.
  • Gladys Monroe is out of work. Please keep her job search in your prayers.
  • Jeanette Bichage is having difficulties with her visa... Pray it will be granted quickly and for God’s perfect will in this situation.

From Devon P, January 29: A very good friend of mine, a Haitian doctor that I worked with while I was in Haiti, called me from Miami.  He was just calling to let me know that he was alive.  The orphanage that he runs in Port au Prince that I worked at is only slightly damaged, and the children are ok, but my friend is not doing very well.  He lost a brother who he buried last week, and his mother and sister's home was destroyed and they are now homeless.  He is the only one in the family with a visa to come back to the US and has had to leave them there.  He has seen many things during the past few weeks, and he is understandably really struggling.  He called me from the doctor’s office where he was waiting to be seen for PTSD.  Please pray for my friend Dr. Franco, and for the orphanage at Christian Haitian Outreach, and for the people of Haiti.  Thank you very much!

From Jason and Hope Jolly, January 22: Praise God this week we found out Hope is pregnant! We are asking for prayer for a healthy pregnancy. Hope has Type 1 diabetes so it's considered a high risk pregnancy. Hope has been in the hospital since Wednesday because her A1C level needs to be lower. Please keep us and the baby in your prayers.

From Tonya Hunter, January 22: Prayer request on our end, our "special needs" baby Arwen Noel will be born "Jan 27" she has "spinal bifida"  would appreciate your prayers on this, we should be in KC for about 2 wks.. Thanks.

From Brandon B, January 21: I was wondering if you could pray for my Grandpa. He is in the hospital for dehydration and is not eating very well. The doctor said if he goes a couple more days without eating that he will pass. My grandfather was the only real "father figure" that Amanda, Austin and I had growing up and he has always been the strength of our family. We are praying that he will desire to eat and will regain his strength, but of course we also want God's will. Please pray for healing and peace for our family, many of which don't know Christ. Thank you. Love, Brandon

From Miyoko, January 15: Hi MBT. I'm doing well. God answered our prayers! We are going to have bible study and prayer meeting here in Japan!! I’m going to ask if we can do SOT boot camp and if we (our church's youth group) can do SOT. Our youth group finally has a youth pastor. I talked with him and asked about doing a prayer ministry and bible study. It was sad thing for me that there was no prayer ministry here....He said he wanted to have that and told me they used to have. However they don't now because people got busy and stopped coming. I told him it doesn't matter if there is one or two! We need to pray together! I believe God's spirit encouraged me to speak. He asked how midtown does it. He was interested in that and asked if I can teach the principals to everyone. God is good! Nothing can be done without Him! We're handing out tracts to our neighbors on Sunday after the service, so please pray for that. Please pray God will use that to bring people, who don't know there is God or who worship creation, to church. Please pray for us that we'll seek Him first and follow, give everything in sovereign's hand and to stay accountable to one another. I’m trusting in God to let me visit Midtown next January. Saving money now... Please pray for that too. Love, Miyoko

From Kathy Mehl in El Salvador, January 6: We are requesting prayer for a new church plant in a nearby town...  Recently we had 60 professions from this town and 30 were willing to participate in a new bible study... So we  are partnering with another church to begin a new work... Jim found a building today for $100 a month... The plan is: we supply the preachers and the other church will supply the Sunday school workers... Please ask the Lord to raise up and lay a burden on one of the preachers to pastor the work....

From Brandon Briscoe, Jan 4: I have a student in my 4th hour class, Antione Beckum (9th grade), that passed away over the Christmas break (Dec. 31st). He was in a sledding accident with his younger brother and went into cardiac arrest and couldn't be revived. This was pretty heavy news for me this morning and I am still a little shook up. I regret that I don't know if he knew Christ or not. I do know that this is a prime opportunity for his family's to be reached with the gospel of peace. I ask that you pray that this happens. Thanks, Brandon

From Cindy Prince, Jan 2:  Destini has been diagnosed with pneumonia, Please keep her in your prayers.

From Chuck Simmons, Jan 2: Hi there. Just wanted to ask for prayer concerning my mom, Melony Smart. Friday night she was at work and they called me to come pick her up, saying she was feeling very poorly and had a pretty high fever. I picked her up and took her to the ER at KU. They admitted her into the hospital, and are treating her for Pneumonia, and the things that go along with it (she's very dehydrated and completely weak). They probably won't let her out until Sunday evening. Please be praying for her. Thank you.

From Kevin Frye, Dec 18: My Grandma Lusby passed away this morning at 3:06 AM. The last couple of months of her being in the hospital have been quite rough on the family so lots of pray is needed.

From Missy Bailey, Dec 18: My cousin Leah is 22 weeks pregnant with a son Ronan. She is have complications because her and the baby's blood types are different causing her body to make antibodies that can become very dangerous for the baby. There is also problems with the high risk of having to deliver the baby early and the insurance not covering a hospital that can facilitate that. I do not think her or her husband Dale are saved but they do believe in prayer. Thank you so much, Missy

From Derrick, December 16: I would like to ask for prayers for my mother who will be flying to El Paso to attend the funeral of my aunt who just passed this week. Pray for her health and for emotional strength because her brother is terminally ill at this time as well (pray for him as he undergoes treatment also). I also ask that you all pray for Amanda and I as We will be travelling throughout the holidays to visit family and friends.  Thank you, Derek Ruffin

From Kayoko, December 12: Thank you for your prayer for the Japanese Bible Study in KC. We hadn't had the meeting for 3 weeks because of several reasons. Although, one of the members was not able to come, we finally could have meeting today. This is the third meeting. Today Reina's salvation was confirmed. Praise the Lord for her salvation. Thank you for all of you who prayed for her. She has a bad experience with a house church before, and misunderstood the message of the gospel. At the first meeting, she was shocked to hear the true gospel from the teaching of Galatians. Apparently, she has been thinking , and at some point, she accepted her Savior after the first meeting. It might have been today or before. As you know, at the first meeting, she said that she cannot believe. Please continue to pray for Ryoko who was saved at the first meeting, and Reina. We can already see what Satan is doing to put obstacles in their lives. Please pray for their next step as followers of Jesus Christ. And please pray that we could continue to learn the Word of God through this Japanese Bible Study (we call it "JBS," cool huh?). Please pray for Kayoko and Damon, and myself as well. Thank you so much, Elisha Katamura

From Eric Phillips, December 10: Betty Hudson was doing well yesterday, but I just found out that she suffered another stroke this morning...  Her son left a message asking for prayer... Please keep her and her recovery in your prayers.

From Lindsay Templeton, December 9: I would really appreciate prayers for a family at my school. Tressa is in my class and has an older brother, Trevor. She has shared several experiences with me including sleeping under bridges, getting kicked out of City Union Mission, not having any food, and she does not ever remember having a house or apartment that was their own. Yesterday her mother was deemed as "unfit" and could not take her children from school. It was terrible to watch as they told the children to say goodbye and take them into custody. As of last night they did not have a foster family that would keep the two children together. Please pray that they will be placed together in a Christian home who introduces them to the Lord. Also be praying that God gets a hold of the mom and gets her attention with this. They are such sweet children that I do not want to see get lost in the system. Thanks.

From Eric Phillips, December 9:   Betty Hudson had a stroke earlier this week and is at Truman Medical Center (in Midtown)...  Eric is visiting her today and will keep us posted. Please keep her and her recovery in your prayers...

From Deb: Continue to pray for those in our congregation scheduled to be leaving... Please keep their safety and future ministry endeavors in your prayers; asking the Lord to keep them in His perfect will and plan for their lives...

  • Claudia Mayo returns to Mexico on December 5
  • Claudia Santos returns to Brazil on December 14
  • Toy Coleman will be working in Louisiana for the next 5 months
  • Linda Bichage will be visiting Kenya for 3 weeks beginning December 17

From Eddie, December 3: As many of you know, our neighbor David Holding was recently shot while aiding us during a home invasion. David had just started a new job the morning before the incident, and his partner Robert was recently laid off. If you can offer some support, an account has been opened in his name at UMB. Contact Trevor French at UMB, 816-218-2211, to make a donation. David recently sent an email to several neighbors. An excerpt follows...  Dear Family and Friends, May you have an abundance of things for which to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!  I am appreciative for all my family, friends and neighbors; for the care I am receiving as a vet; and where I am in life.  May you find peace and joy today.  Currently, I am in the Topeka VA nursing home recovering from a gunshot to the lower spine: Lumbar number five (L5).  My neighbors were being robbed at gunpoint on Monday, 9 November.  The young woman with her two babies (one year old and eight month old) and her friend escaped and came to my house (one house over) for help.  Without hesitation and just in my bath towel, I grabbed my gun and went to check the house out and confront the robbers.  One of them appeared to point a gun at me from inside the house, but I shot first - hitting him twice.  As he ran to the back of the house, I followed and was shot in the side as I entered the house.  The bullet ! traveling to the spine and lodging inside.  I emptied my gun the general direction of the shot.  I made my way out of the house where Robert helped me walk back home. I was taken to Truman Medical where the bullet was removed two days later.  The young man I shot was picked up at St. Joseph Hospital south of us where he was identified and arrested.  He is only 15 years old and the other two are under twenty years of age and still at large.  The young man knew his victims and had planned the robbery with his conspirators.  I know hindsight is 20/20 and I probably should have held fort at my house as the police arrived.  But hearing that they had threatened to kill a mother and babies for money just triggered me.   I am walking and have minimal nerve damage.  Just lacking control of bathroom functions and have some numbness in the legs.  Will I hesitate in the future to protect my family, friends or neighbors in the future?  Probably not, but I will be more mindful of my approach and resolve. I will be transferring to the St. Louis VA this week where the spinal specialists are located.  The VA doctors are going to get me into the best treatment for the worst case scenario, even though they don't think it is that bad.  They'd rather be safe than sorry. I wish you the best this holiday season and will try to keep you up to date as I find things out.

From Cheryl, December 2: My daughter is moving back to Kansas City this week, well the person that was supposed to be helping her drive back cancelled out at the last minute, therefore I am going to have to fly to California tomorrow night 12/3/09 and help her drive back, it will take 2 days because I cannot drive 25 hours straight by myself, we will leave LA early Sat. morning and get in sometime late Sunday night. I'm asking for prayer that God gives us traveling mercy on the highway Thanks so much.  Cheryl Jones.

From Myndi, December 1: My dad had surgery a week ago Monday... So far I think he's doing pretty good. He got the cath out this Monday so now it's just a matter of time, to see how the healing and test results go etc. But I think God is using this to pull him back in the fold. At thanksgiving he was trying to say the prayer and just started crying, He's been bitter and mad at God since my parents’ divorce 25 years ago and I think that He could really use some prayer, I think God is working in his heart. Thanks!
