Ministry

Ministry

We often use the word ministry to convey the idea of what we do here at Midtown Baptist Temple. Ministry simply means "to serve" and that is what we are all about. We serve a living God and, in turn, we serve people in and through Him. As we minister, we are following the perfect example set forth by Jesus Christ. He came not to recieve service, but to serve others. (Matthew 20:28 and John 13:1-17)

We see a clear pattern of Christian service in the scriptures. The Christian should minister to God first by presenting ourselves a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1) and then to others with love and humility on Christ's behalf (Matthew 20:26, Romans 1:1, Galatians 1:10, Colossians 4:12). This ministry to others should be the natural outflow of an intimate walk with God through Jesus Christ. True ministry should stem out of love for God and love for others.

True ministry should be guided with one goal in mind and that is to meet the ultimate goal in someone's life. This ultimate goal is sharing the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Therefore, ministry should place the emphasis on the gospel so others can come to know Christ as Savior, go on to know Him as Lord in their lives, and then be able to serve others through His power. (John 1:12, Colossians 2:6-7, Galatians 2:20, Philippians 3:8-10) The emphasis of biblical ministry is on the spiritual, but also includes addressing physical, emotional, and mental needs as well. True ministry is never enabling, it is empowering!

At Midtown Baptist Temple, we are all about meeting the needs of our body and our community. We have several ministries that both serve others and enable believers to serve. If you are serious about growing in your walk with the Lord, then serving others in ministry is where you need to be.
